1                      Authorising provision

This Notice is made under:

a)      Section 174 of the Heavy Vehicle National Law as applied in each participating jurisdiction.

2                      Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to amend stated maps for vehicles at the request of road managers.  

3                      Commencement Date

The amendments take effect 28 days after publication of Amendment Notice 2019 (No.18)

4                      Title

This Notice may be cited as the Heavy Vehicle Stated Maps – Amendment Notice 2019 (No.18)

5                      Application

This Notice applies in all participating jurisdictions.  

6                      Amendments

The specified networks in Column 2 of Schedule 1 to this Notice are amended as specified in Column 4 for the Road Manager’s reasons shown in Column 5.

  • Left turn only from Bridge Inn Road into Cookes Road
  • Right turn only from Cookes Road into Bridge Inn Road

Overview

Breaching the provisions of this Notice may result in civil or criminal penalties, depending on the nature and severity of the breach. For example, section 174(4) of the Heavy Vehicle National Law provides that a person who contravenes a stated map is liable to a fine of up to 20 penalty units (currently AUD 4,200). In addition, section 174(5) of the Law provides that a person who knowingly or recklessly contravenes a stated map is guilty of an offence and is liable to a fine of up to 50 penalty units (currently AUD 10,500) or imprisonment for up to two years, or both. These penalties may be increased if the breach results in harm or damage to persons or property. In summary, the Heavy Vehicle Stated Maps – Amendment Notice 2019 (No.18) amends the stated maps for heavy vehicles in participating jurisdictions at the request of road managers. It imposes obligations on road managers and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to implement and publish the amendments.
