FACULTIES (FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND COMMERCE) RULES 2005
The Council of the Australian National University makes these Rules under section 10 of the Faculties Statute 2002.

Citation and commencement
1 (1) These are the Faculties (Faculty of Economics and Commerce) Rules 2005.
(2) These Rules commence on 31 December 2004, immediately after the commencement of the Rules (Repeal) Rules 2004.
Definitions
2 In these Rules, unless the contrary intention appears:
Chair for a Faculty meeting, means the person presiding at the meeting.
Dean means Dean of the Faculty.
fractional academic staff are academic staff each of whose appointments is for not less than 50% of the equivalent full-time appointment.
meeting means a meeting of the Faculty.
member means member of the Faculty.
Students' Association means the Australian National University Students' Association.
the Faculty means the Faculty of Economics and Commerce in The Faculties.
the Statute means the Faculties Statute 1999.
Faculty of Economics and Commerce
3 (1) The Faculty includes:
(a) for paragraph 3 (1) (c) of the Statute, the full-time academic staff and fractional academic staff appointed for more than 363 days to the Faculty or a Department, Division, School or Centre for the time being assigned to the Faculty; and
(b) for paragraph 3 (1) (d) of the Statute:
(i) each undergraduate student member of the Education Committee of the Faculty who has full voting rights at meetings of that Committee; and
(ii) 1 person nominated by the Students' Representative Council of the Students' Association, being:
(A) an undergraduate student; and
(B) a person who is elected to office as a member of the Faculty Representative Council by the students enrolled in courses of studies for which the Faculty is responsible; and
(C) a person who has, at the date of his or her nomination, been enrolled as a student for not less than 1 year; and
(iii) 1 graduate student elected from among their number by the graduate students enrolled in the Faculty; and
(c) for paragraph 3 (1) (e) of the Statute:
(i) 1 full-time academic staff member of the Faculty of Arts elected by that Faculty; and
(ii) 1 full-time academic staff member of the Faculty of Asian Studies elected by that Faculty; and
(iii) 1 full-time academic staff member of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology elected by that Faculty; and
(iv) 1 full-time academic staff member of the Faculty of Law elected by that Faculty; and
(v) 1 full-time academic staff member of the Faculty of Science elected by that Faculty; and
(vi) such other persons, not exceeding 5, as the Faculty nominates.
(2) A member of the Faculty referred to in subparagraph (3)(1)(b) or 3(1)(c) holds office for a period of 12 months, or a lesser period stated in the instrument of nomination or election as the case may be, but is eligible for re-nomination or re-election as the case may be.
(3) A Faculty or body of students required to elect a member of the Faculty referred to under subparagraph (3)(1)(b) or (3)(1)(c) may appoint an alternate for each member so elected to act on behalf of the member where the member is, for any reason, temporarily unable to carry out the duties of his or her office.
(4) If a member of the Faculty of Economics and Commerce referred to under subparagraph (3)(1)(b) or (3)(1)(c):
(a) dies; or
(b) declines to act; or
(c) resigns office; or
(d) ceases to have the qualification (if any) by virtue of which he or she was elected;
his or her office becomes vacant.
(5) If:
(a) under subrule (4), a vacancy occurs in the office of a member of the Faculty referred to under subparagraph (3)(1)(b) or (3)(1)(c); and
(b) an alternate member is appointed in relation to that office;
the alternate member holds office for the unexpired portion of the term of office of the member.
(6) If no alternate member is appointed in relation to an office of a member of the Faculty referred to under subparagraph (3)(1)(b) or (3)(1)(c), a further nomination must be made, or an election must be held, as the case requires.
Convening of Meetings
4 (1) The Dean must convene a meeting at the written request of at least 15 members.
(2) Any meeting required under subrule (1) shall be held within 10 working days after the Dean receives the written request.
Notice of Meetings
5 Not less than 5 days' notice in writing of a meeting must be given to all members other than members on leave of absence from the University.
Quorum
6 (1) At a meeting, 15 members constitute a quorum.
(2) At a meeting, the business of the Faculty must not begin unless a quorum of the Faculty is present.
(3) At a meeting, any member may assert that a quorum of members is not present and, if the Chair, having taken a count, finds a quorum is not present then the proceedings of the meeting must be adjourned until a date to be fixed by the Chair.
