Export Meat Amendment Orders 2002 (No. 1)

I, WARREN ERROL TRUSS, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, make these Orders under regulation 3 of the Export Control (Orders) Regulations 1982.

1 Name of Orders

  These Orders are the Export Meat Amendment Orders 2002 (No. 1).

2 Commencement

  These Orders commence on gazettal.

3 Amendment of Export Meat Orders 1985

  Schedule 1 amends the Export Meat Orders 1985.


Schedule 1 Amendments

(section 3)

[1] Order 326

substitute

326 Certificate for halal meat

  An exporter of meat that has been produced in accordance with an approved Australian Government Supervised Muslim Slaughter Programme is entitled to receive a certificate that:

 (a) is in a form approved by the Secretary; and

 (b) identifies the meat as halal meat; and

 (c) is completed in accordance with Suborder 330.1.

330.1 Statement by recognised Islamic body

  A recognised Islamic body may certify that particular meat is halal meat by signing and stamping in the space provided, a certificate of a kind mentioned in Order 326 that identifies the meat.

330.2 Using certificate to falsely certify meat

  A person other than a recognised Islamic body must not, by using a certificate of a kind mentioned in Order 326, purport to certify that meat is halal meat.
