Customs (Cinematograph Films) Regulations

The purpose of the accompanying amendment to the Customs (Cinematograph Films) Regulations is to increase the number of members of the Censorship Board.
The Customs (Cinematograph Films) Regulations govern the examination of imported film by the Censorship Board and the Cinematograph Films Board of Review with a view to their registration for exhibition and establishes therefore the number of members of the Censorship Board.
Commonwealth/State Ministers with responsibility for censorship have agreed that the Censorship Board will classify videotapes, videodiscs and films for sale and hire under the terms of the A.C.T. Classification of Publications (Amendment) Ordinance 1984 which is to be model legislation for a national videotape classification system. The additional duties resulting from this decision necessitate an increase in the number of members of the Censorship Board.
The amendment provides for an increase in the size of the Censorship Board from 7 to a maximum of 10 members.
