EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
STATUTORY RULES 1989 No. 207
Customs (Cinematograph Films) Regulations
(Issued under the authority of the Attorney-General)
The purpose of the accompanying amendment to the Customs (Cinematograph Films) Regulations is to:
(a) establish the office of Senior Censor of the Film Censorship Board; and
(b) empower the Attorney-General to make ‘acting’ appointments of up to three months duration to the Film Censorship Board.
The Customs (Cinematograph Films) Regulations provide for the examination of imported film intended for public exhibition by the Film Censorship Board and Cinematograph Films Board of Review with a view to their registration and also establish the structure and size of the Film Censorship Board.
The amendment addresses the need for the office of Senior Censor which will assist the Chief Censor and Deputy Chief Censor with the enlarged responsiblities flowing from the recent creation of the Office of Film and Literature Classification; and improved administration of short term acting appointments to the Film Censorship Board.
