$1 Copper, Aluminium and Nickel Coin – Mob of Roos ‘Buddy Bear’ Privymark

Reverse

A stylised representation of 5 kangaroos. The reverse design includes a square enclosing a stylised outline drawing of a bear standing with limbs extended. The inscription ‘1 DOLLAR’ is also included in the design.

Obverse

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘ELIZABETH II’, ‘AUSTRALIA’ and the inscription, in numerals, of a year. The obverse design includes the initials of the designer Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

Reverse

Reverse

In the centre, a representation of the stem of a bamboo.  On the left of that bamboo stem is a representation of a house, a fence, leaves, a man holding a rifle. In the in the background is a representation of a hill with leaves and grasses. On the right of that central bamboo stem is a representation of another bamboo stem and a landscape consisting of a body of water, hills, grasses and leaves. The design includes a representation of 2 soldiers crossing a bridge over a body of water, wherein one man is holding a rifle. The design also includes the number ‘50’ and the inscription ‘INDONESIAN CONFRONTATION’.

The design features a stylised representation of an Australian florin coin as it appeared in 1963, omitting the year of the coin and the denomination. The design includes the letter ‘C’ enclosed by a circle, denoting Canberra and the inscriptions ‘FIFTY YEARS, ‘ELIZABETH II’, ‘AUSTRALIA’. The design also includes 2 representations of a dot and the inscription, in numerals, of a year. The obverse design is enclosed by an ornamental border.
