Under subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965, the Assistant Treasurer has made a determination regarding the specification of coins proposed to be issued by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM).

 

Subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965 requires that the determination provides details of the coins characteristics, including standard composition, standard weight, allowable variation from standard weight, design and dimensions.

 

This determination is a disallowable instrument for the purposes of section 42 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003 (Subsection 13 (6) and 13A (4) of the Currency Act 1965, Section 57 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003).

 

 

 

Item 1

 

20c Coin

2011 Copper and Nickel 20c Uncirculated Coin – Australia Remembers War Historians

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of a man in military uniform standing on the track of a tank with a field camera. The design also features the inscriptions ‘AUSTRALIA REMEMBERS’,  ‘20’, and ‘WAR HISTORIANS’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’ and ‘Australia 2011’.

 

Packed in a blister and collector card, this product is set to become part of the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program.

 

Item 2

$1 Coin

2011 Fine Silver $1 Frosted Uncirculated Coin – Narrows Bridge Perth  

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of the Narrows Bridge in Perth against a backdrop of the city skyline, and also the inscriptions ‘NARROWS BRIDGE-PERTH’, ‘1 OUNCE FINE SILVER’, and ‘ONE DOLLAR’.

 

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions Elizabeth II’ and ‘Australia 2011.

 

This product is set to become part of the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program and will be available at the Perth Australasian Numismatic Dealers Association Show in February 2011. 

 

Item 3

$1 Coin

2011 Copper, Aluminum and Nickel $1 ‘P’ Counterstamp Uncirculated Coin – Ram’s Head Dollar

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of a merino ram, as well as 2 representations of the Star of Federation, and the inscriptions ‘AUSTRALIA’, ‘ONE DOLLAR’, and the letter ‘P’ enclosed by a circle.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’ and ‘Australia 2011’.

 

This product is set to become part of the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program and will be available at the Perth Australasian Numismatic Dealers Association Show in February 2011. 

 

Item 4

$1 Coin

2011 Silver $1 Proof Coin –  Zuytdorp Shipwreck

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of a wave, and a representation of a two stuiver (also known as stiver) coin, partially obscured by the wave. Below the wave is a representation of coral, a cluster of stuiver coins embedded in coral, and starfish. The design includes the inscriptions ‘VOC ZUYTDORP’, the number ‘1’, and ‘DOLLAR’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions Elizabeth II’ and Australia 2010.

 

This product is set to become part of the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program and will be available via mail order directly from the Royal Australian Mint.

$5 Coin

2011 Gold $5 Proof Coin – Hyde Park Barracks

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of the Hyde Park Barracks behind a brick wall, and the inscriptions ‘HYDE PARK BARRACKS’, and ‘1/25 oz .9999 Au’.

 

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘5 Dollars’ and ‘Australia 2011’.

 

This product is presented as part of the Convict Past set in the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program.

 

Item 6

$5 Coin

2011 Gold $5 Proof Coin – Port Arthur Historic Site

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of the inside of the Port Arthur Convict Church, and the inscriptions ‘PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE’, and ‘1/25 oz .9999 Au’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘5 Dollars’ and ‘Australia 2011’.

Item 7

$5 Coin

2011 Gold $5 Proof Coin – Fremantle Prison

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of the Fremantle Prison, and the inscriptions ‘FREMANTLE PRISON’, and ‘1/25 oz .9999 Au’.

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘5 Dollars’ and ‘Australia 2011’.

 

This product is presented as part of the Convict Past set in the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program.

 

 

Public consultation

No public consultation was undertaken in relation to the currency determination as it has limited public interest and the designs of the coins are based on the commercial decisions of the Royal Australian Mint.

 

The determination commences on the day after it is registered.
