Under subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965 the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer has made a determination on 1 October 2007 regarding the specifications for the Centenary of Rugby League $5 silver proof coin to be issued by the Royal Australian Mint. The specification was covered in item 2 of Currency (Royal Australian Mint) Determination 2007 (No.6).
In order to include the designer’s mark on the coin, the Royal Australian Mint seeks to revise the details of the reverse design for the Centenary of Rugby League $5 silver proof coin.
Currency (Royal Australian Mint) Determination 2007 (No.6) Amendment Determination 2007 (No.1) substitutes the revised specification for the reverse design of item 2 set out in Currency (Royal Australian Mint) Determination 2007 (No.6). All other specifications for the coin remain unchanged.
This amendment determination is a legislative instrument for section 42 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003 and commences on the day after it is registered.
Obverse
Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, together with the year 2008, will appear on the obverse side of the coin.
Public consultation
The coins covered in the determination are part of the Mint’s annual collector coin program and stakeholder consultation was undertaken to ensure appropriate themes and designs were chosen for this program. However, no public consultation was undertaken in respect of the actual specifications of these coins as they do not have a direct, or a substantially indirect, effect on business, nor do they restrict competition.
