CURRENCY REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT)

Paragraph 14 (2) (b) of the Currency Act 1965 (the Act) provides that a coin to be made and issued by the Treasurer shall be of the standard weight, design and dimensions as prescribed (by regulation) in relation to that coin.
On 24 October 1985, the Treasurer announced that the 1986 $1 coin would incorporate a special design on the reverse side to commemorate the United Nations’ International Year of Peace. The design will feature the International Year of Peace symbol, which depicts a dove being released from a pair of hands surrounded by a laurel wreath.
The proposed amendment to regulation 4 of the Currency Regulations prescribes the design details for the 1986 $1 coin pursuant to paragraph 14(2) (b) of the Act.
