Conditions of Advancement of Officer.

Analyst, Junior.........

Shall, if an adult, be designated Analyst, Grade 1, and paid not less than £306 per annum provided—

(a) (i) he has satisfactorily completed a period of five years’ training, or such lesser period as the Board may in special cases determine; and

(ii) he has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he has completed an approved course of study in subjects relating to the work of the position and in allied subjects at a Technical School or other institution approved by the Board: or

(b) he has completed a degree course appropriate to the work of the position at a recognized University and has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of efficiency and aptitude for that work

Architect, Cadet........

Shall, if an adult, be designated Architect, Grade 1, and paid not less than £306 per annum provided—

(a) (i) he has satisfactorily completed a period of five years’ training; and

(ii) he has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he has completed an approved course of study in subjects relating to the work of the position and in allied subjects at a Technical School or other institution approved by the Board: or

(b) he has completed a degree course appropriate to work of the position at a recognized University and has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of efficiency and aptitude for that work

Assessor, Grade 1 (Income Tax), £258-£330

Shall not be advanced beyond £306 per annum unless—

(i) he has passed the Intermediate examination of an Institute of Accountants recognized by the Board or has passed in at least three subjects of a University Course in Commerce or Economics, including Accountancy 1. and Commercial Law; or

Office Occupied.

Conditions of Advancement of Officer.

Assessor, Grade 1 (Income Tax), £258-£330–contd.

Assessor, Grade 2 (Income Tax), £282-£354

Shall not be advanced beyond £318 per annum unless—

(i) he has passed the intermediate examination of an Institute of Accountants recognized by the Board or has passed in at least three subjects of a University Course in Commerce or Economics, including Accountancy I. and Commercial Law: or

(ii) he has passed the final examination of an Institute of Accountants recognized by the Board or has successfully completed a University Course in Commerce or Economics, including Accountancy I. and II. (or the full Accountancy Course where the subject is not divided into parts)

On compliance with condition (i), the officer may advance by annual increments to a maximum of £330 per annum

On compliance with condition (ii), the officer may advance by annual increments to a maximum of £354 per annum

Assistant Examiner (Patent Office), £120-£354

(1) Shall not be advanced beyond £306 per annum, or, if at the date of his transfer or promotion from within the Service he is in receipt of a salary exceeding £306 per annum, shall not be advanced beyond that salary, unless he has satisfactorily completed at least twelve months’ service as Assistant Examiner (Patent Office) and demonstrated his efficiency and aptitude for the work to the satisfaction of the Board, and—

(a) he has completed a degree course at a recognized University appropriate to the work of the position occupied by him: or

(b) he has passed an examination conducted by, or with the approval of, the Board in the Patent Law of the Commonwealth in accordance with a syllabus approved by the Board and notified in the Gazette

Upon compliance with the preceding provisions of this paragraph, the officer shall, if an adult, be paid not less than £306 per annum and may be advanced to £330 per annum by annual increments

(2) Shall not be advanced beyond £330 per annum, or, if at the date of his transfer or promotion from within the Service he is in receipt of a salary exceeding £330 per annum, shall not be advanced beyond that salary, unless—

(a) he has satisfactorily completed at least twelve months’ service as Assistant Examiner (Patent Office) and demonstrated his efficiency and aptitude for the work to the satisfaction of the Board; and

(b) he has passed an examination conducted by, or with the approval of, the Board in the Patent Law of the Commonwealth in accordance with a syllabus approved by the Board and notified in the Gazette

Office Occupied.

Conditions of Advancement of Officer.

Biochemist, Cadet......

(1) Shall, if an adult, be paid not less than £306 per annum, provided—

(a) (i) he has satisfactorily completed a period of five years’ training as Cadet Biochemist in the Department of Health, or such lesser period as the Board may in special cases determine;

(ii) he has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he has acquired a sound knowledge of inorganic, physical and organic chemistry, to the standard required for a pass in a three years’ course in chemistry at an approved Technical School or that he possesses special qualifications which, in the opinion of the Board, are of like value; and

(iii) not earlier than twelve months after attaining the standard of knowledge specified in (ii) or obtaining the special qualifications regarded by the Board as of like value, he has passed an examination approved by the Board and notified from time to time in the Gazette: or

(b) he has completed at a recognized University a degree course appropriate to the work of the position and has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of efficiency and aptitude for that work: or

(c) in the case of an officer appointed as Biochemist, Cadet, prior to first July, 1936, he has complied with the conditions prescribed for payment of salary of not less than £306 per annum in operation at the time of his appointment.

(2) Shall be designated Biochemist, Grade 1, upon compliance with proviso (a) or (b) or (c) of paragraph (1), subject in the case of an officer whose compliance is pursuant to proviso (b) or (c), to his having passed an examination in such subjects and under such conditions as are approved by the Board and notified from time to time in the Gazette.

Clerk, £96-£330, Statistician’s Branch, Department of the Treasury

Shall not be advanced beyond £306 per annum unless—

(i) the Board is satisfied as to his efficiency in, and aptitude for, statistical work; and

(ii) he has furnished evidence that he has qualified for the Diploma in or the Degree of Commerce or Economies at a University

On compliance with these conditions the officer, if an adult, shall be paid not less than £306 per annum

Clerk (Legal), £96-£354....

Shall not be advanced beyond £306 per annum unless—

(1) the Board is satisfied as to his efficiency and aptitude for legal work; and

(2) he has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that—

(i) he is engaged upon an approved course of study with the object of qualifying for admission as a Barrister or Solicitor and is making satisfactory progress therein; or

(ii) he has qualified for admission as a Barrister or Solicitor of the High Court or the Supreme Court of a State

Office Occupied.

Conditions of Advancement of Officer.

Clerk (Legal), £96-£354 —continued.

On compliance with conditions (1) and (2) (i) the officer may advance by annual increments to a maximum of £318 per annum. On compliance with conditions (1) and (2) (ii) the officer shall be paid not less than £318 per annum, and may advance to a maximum of £354 per annum. Where the officer has graduated in law, or has passed all the necessary examinations to qualify him for admission as a Barrister or Solicitor, he may be regarded as having complied with condition (ii) if, in the opinion of the Board, his experience and efficiency so warrant

Clerk (Legal), £306-£402

(1) Shall not be advanced beyond £402 per annum or receive further incremental advancement except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he is rendering efficient service and is engaged in an approved course of study with the object of qualifying for admission as a Barrister or Solicitor and is making satisfactory progress therein, or has successfully completed such a course. Where the officer has already graduated in law, or has passed all the necessary examinations to qualify him for admission as a Barrister or Solicitor, the Board may fix the minimum salary to be paid to that officer in the office and the date for purposes of future advancement from which it shall be deemed to have been paid

(2) Shall not be advanced beyond £456 per annum unless he has qualified for admission as a Barrister or Solicitor of the High Court or of the Supreme Court of a State. In the case of an officer who has graduated in law, or has passed all the necessary examinations to qualify him for admission as a Barrister or Solicitor, that officer may be advanced in salary beyond £456 per annum if, in the opinion of the Board, the character and importance of his work so warrant

Draftsman, Cadet (other than Postmaster-General’s Department)

Shall, if an adult, be designated Draftsman, Grade 1, and paid not less than £306 per annum, provided—

(a) (i) he has satisfactorily completed a period of five years’ training; and

(ii) he has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he has completed an approved course of study in subjects relating to the work of the position and in allied subjects at a Technical School or other institution, or in such other manner, as is approved from time to time by the Board; or

(b) he has completed a degree course appropriate to the work of the position at a recognized University and has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of efficiency and aptitude for that work

ExExaminer of Patents.....

Shall not be advanced beyond £402 per annum or, if appointed as Examiner of Patents or Examiner of Trade Marks at a salary exceeding £402 per annum, shall not be advanced beyond that salary, except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that the officer is capable of performing efficiently the whole of the duties of an Examiner in the section in which he is employed

ExExaminer of Patents, Grade 1

Shall not be advanced beyond £402 per annum or, if at the date of his transfer or promotion from within the Service he is in receipt of a salary exceeding £402 per annum, shall not be advanced beyond that salary, unless—

(i) he has served for two years as Examiner of Patents, Grade 1;

Office Occupied.

Conditions of Advancement of Officer.

Examiner of Patents, Grade 1—continued.

(ii) he has passed an examination conducted by, or with the approval of, the Board, in—

(a) the Patent Law of the Commonwealth; and

(b) the Patent Case Law of the Commonwealth;

in accordance with a syllabus approved by the Board and notified in the Gazette; and

(iii) the Board is satisfied that he is capable of performing efficiently the whole of the duties of Examiner of Patents, Grade I, in the section in which he is employed

Upon compliance with these conditions and subject to good conduct and diligence the officer shall be paid not less than £402 per annum and may advance by annual increments to the maximum salary for the position

Grader, Junior.........

Shall not be advanced beyond £402 per annum except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that he is capable of discharging any duties which come within the scope of the section in which he is employed. Upon approval of advancement beyond £402 per annum the officer shall be designated “Grader”

Librarian (Female), £232-£304

Shall not be advanced beyond £256 per annum, except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of proficiency in the duties of the office justifying such advancement

Meteorological Assistant...

Shall not be advanced beyond £306 per annum unless—

(1) he has been employed for three years on meteorological duties, and/or has given evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of aptitude for meteorological work; and

(2) he has furnished evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that—

(i) he is engaged upon a course of study in Mathematics and/or Physics of the standard of a University degree course and is making satisfactory progress therein; or

(ii) he has completed a course of study equivalent to the standard of a third year University course in Mathematics and/or Physics; or

(iii) after at least three years adult service in the Meteorological Branch, and after reaching twenty-five years of age, he has passed such examination in subjects, related to meteorology, as is prescribed by the Board

On compliance with conditions (1) and (2) (i) the officer may advance by annual increments to a maximum of £318 per annum. On compliance with conditions (1) and (2) (ii) the officer shall, if an adult, be paid not less than £306 per annum and may advance to a maximum of £354 per annum. On compliance with conditions (1) and (2) (iii) the officer may advance to a maximum of £354 per annum

Postal Clerk...........

Shall not be advanced beyond £258 per annum (£208 per annum in the case of a female officer) except upon passing such tests in telegraphy and postal work as are notified by the Board from time to time

Quantity Surveyor, Assistant, £120-£474

Shall not be advanced beyond £384 per annum except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board that the character and importance of the work so warrant, and

Office Occupied.

Radio Inspector, Assistant

(1.) Shall not be advanced beyond £330 per annum unless qualified for a second class commercial operator’s certificate of proficiency issued under Regulation 127 of the Regulations made under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1905–1919

(2) Shall not be advanced beyond £354 per annum unless qualified for a first class commercial operator’s certificate of proficiency issued under Regulation 127 of the Regulations made under the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1905-1919

Telegraphist...........

Shall not be advanced beyond £306 per annum (£256 per annum in the case of a female officer) except upon evidence to the satisfaction of the Board of efficiency in the performance of telegraphic duties justifying such advancement
