This instrument is the Christmas Island Local Government (Population Estimate) Order 2025.
2 Commencement
This instrument commences on the start of the day after this instrument is registered.

This instrument is made under section 2.16B of the Local Government Act 1995 (WA) as in force in the Territory of Christmas Island under the Christmas Island Act 1958 (Cth).

Note: A number of expressions used in this instrument are defined in the Act, including the following:
(a) district;
(b) ordinary election day.
In this instrument:
Act means the Local Government Act 1995 (WA) as in force in the Territory of Christmas Island under the Christmas Island Act 1958 (Cth).
5 Population estimate
(1) The estimated population of the district of Christmas Island is 1,823.
(2) The number specified in subsection (1) is taken to be the population of the district of Christmas Island for the purposes of sections 2.17 and 2.17A of the Act.
(3) Subsection (2) has effect on and from the next ordinary election day for the Christmas Island Shire that falls after the day on which this instrument commences.
