I, Graeme Mills crawford, Aviation Group Manager, a delegate of CASA, make this instrument under regulation 139.015 of the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 and paragraph 8.1.1.1 of the Manual of Standards (MOS) – Part 139 Aerodromes (the MOS).

Approval — alignment lines at primary parking positions (operators of certified aerodromes)
1 Commencement
This instrument commences on the day of registration.
2 Application
This instrument applies to operators of certified aerodromes (the aerodrome operator).
3 Approval
I approve the aerodrome operator at primary parking positions to:
(a) omit the marking of alignment lines beyond pilot stop lines on the aerodrome apron areas; or
(b) not mark the alignment lines beyond pilot stop lines on the aerodrome apron areas.
Note Requirements for the marking of alignment lines are otherwise prescribed in paragraph 8.5.18 of the MOS.
4 Conditions
The approval is subject to the conditions mentioned in Schedule 1.
Schedule 1 Conditions
1 If the alignment line beyond a pilot stop line has not been provided at a parking position, the aerodrome operator must ensure that an aircraft using the parking position:
(a) uses a Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS); or
(b) if VDGS is not operational or not installed — is marshalled into position.
2 The aerodrome operator must:
(a) include details of this approval in the operator’s aerodrome manual (the Manual); and
(b) ensure that the Manual provisions relating to alignment lines reflect the terms of this approval; and
(c) ensure that operators of aircraft using the aerodrome are advised about the Manual provisions relating to alignment lines.
