BOODEREE NATIONAL PARK
DETERMINATION RELATING TO FISHING OTHER THAN COMMERCIAL FISHING 2025
I, Peter Donohoe, Branch Head of Booderee and Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Parks in the Parks Australia Division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, delegate of the Director of National Parks, acting pursuant to subregulation 12.35 (3) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2000, HEREBY DETERMINE:
- that fishing is prohibited in the areas of water in the Booderee National Park (Park) specified in Schedule 1;
- that the kinds of fish specified in Schedule 2 must not be taken in the Park;
- that the kinds of fish specified in Schedule 3 may be taken in the waters of the Park (other than the prohibited areas specified in Schedule 1);
- that the taking of the kinds of fish specified in column 1 of Schedule 4 is subject to the limits specified in columns 2 and 3 of the Schedule with respect to:
- the maximum number that a person may take in a day; and
- the maximum or minimum size that a person may take; and
- that fishing is subject to the additional conditions specified in Schedule 5.
AND I HEREBY REVOKE all previous determinations made under subregulation 12.35(3) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2000 in relation to fishing other than commercial fishing in the Park.
This determination commences the day after it is registered.

SCHEDULE 1
Areas of water in which fishing is prohibited
The areas of water in Booderee National Park in which fishing is prohibited include any freshwater areas of the Park and also:
- the marine component of the Nature Conservation Zone (National Park IUCN II) adjacent to Bowen Island (see Map 1), being the area of the marine waters in the zone to the west of Bowen Island, extending from the Bowen Island and Adjacent Waters Special Purpose Zone boundary 30 meters from the island out to 100 meters seaward from the mean high tide mark,
- Botanic Gardens Zone (Habitat/species management area, IUCN IV), being the area marked by the boundary fence as Booderee Botanic Gardens including Lake McKenzie (see Map 2),
- Bowen Island and Adjacent Waters Special Purposes Zone (National Park, IUCN II), being Bowen Island and waters on the western side of the island out to 30 meters from the mean high water mark (see Map 2), and
- HMAS Creswell Waterfront Special Purposes Zone (National Park, IUCN II), being the area between mean high water mark and the park marine boundary (see Map 2).

Kinds of fish that must not be taken in the Park
- All aquatic invertebrate animals other than Southern Calamari (Sepioteuthis australis) (also known as Southern Reef Squid) and Arrow Squid (Nototodarus gouldi) (also known as Slender Inshore Squid)
- Grey Nurse Shark (Carcharias taurus)
- Sand Tiger Shark (Carcharias taurus)
- Wobbegong Shark (Orectolobus spp)
- Herbsts Shark (Odontaspis ferox)
- Great Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrna mokarran) and Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrna lewini)
- Dogfish - Harrisson's (Centrophorus harrissoni) and Southern (Centrophorus uyato)
- Blue Drummer (Girella cyanea)
- Giant Queensland Groper (Epinephelus lanceolatus)
- Green Sawfish (Pristis zijsron)
- Estuary Cod (Epinephelus coioides)
- Black Rock Cod (Epinephelus daemelii)

Other conditions on fishing other than commercial fishing
- The tethering of fish (whether or not alongside a boat) is prohibited.
- If a person stores any fish in a freezer, the fish must be stored in bags clearly marked with the name of the person who owns the fish.
- A person who is fishing must not attract or take fish using equipment other than a rod and line to which a single hook or fishing lure is attached or a handheld line to which a single hook or fishing lure is attached.
