EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
STATUTORY RULES 1988 No. 116
Issued by the authority of the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy
AUSTRALIAN WINE AND BRANDY CORPORATION
(ELECTION OF MEMBERS) REGULATIONS (REPEAL)
The Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation Amendment Act 1986 which came into operation on 1 July 1986 reconstituted the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation with revised functions and powers and reformed membership. The Act amended the Principal Act, to provide inter alia, for membership of the Corporation from 1 July 1986 to comprise an independent Chairperson, a Government member and six other members.
Other than the Chairperson and Government member prospective members are selected and nominated by a Selection Committee on the basis of criteria appropriate to the activities of the Corporation. This replaces the previous provision whereby certain members of the Corporation were appointed following polls to elect representatives of various industry sectors.
These Regulations repeal the existing Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation (Election of Members) Regulations as they have now become redundant following amendments to the Act reforming membership of the Corporation.
