Variation to Special Research Initiatives Funding Rules to enable the European Molecular Biology Laboratory Initiative (EMBL).
Authority
Section 60 of the Australian Research Council Act 2001 (the Act) provides that the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research must approve ARC funding rules.
Purpose and effect
The Special Research Initiatives Funding Rules for funding commencing in 2008-2009 or 2009-2010 were approved under section 60 of the Act by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr, on 18 February 2008.
Special Research Initiatives is a scheme funded under the Australian Research Council’s National Competitive Grants Program. The Special Research Initiatives Funding Rules for funding commencing in 2008-2009 or 2009-2010 sets out the eligibility and accountability requirements and other relevant matters for research programs which may be funded under this scheme. The scheme supports high-quality research which will assist in advancing Australia’s research excellence to be globally competitive and deliver benefits to the community which are approved by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
A variation to these rules was approved under section 61 of the Act by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator the Hon Kim Carr, 26 May 2009. Details of the approved variation to the Special Research Initiatives Funding Rules to enable the European Molecular Biology Laboratory Initiative are:
- Section 8.1.5 has been amended to include ‘unless otherwise approved by the ARC’ and now reads: “All CIs and PIs nominated on a Proposal must satisfy the eligibility criteria for the role they are to perform as specified in Section 8 and Appendix 3, unless otherwise approved by the ARC.”
- Appendix 2 of the Funding Agreement has been varied to include the following: European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)—Group Leader position
Commencement
The Variation to Special Research Initiatives Funding Rules to enable the European Molecular Biology Laboratory Initiative shall take effect day after of registration on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.
