Australian Passports Amendment Determination 2008 (No.1)
EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
The Determination inserts a new fee schedule (Schedule 4) into the Australian Passports Determination 2005. The new fees take effect on 1 July 2008.
The Treasurer announced the new fees in his 2008 Budget speech on 13 May 2008.
The new fees represent an increase of 4% against a CPI increase of 2.8%.
The maximum increase for an individual travel document is $8.00 (which would have been $6.00 if the CPI increase had been applied).
Section 57 of the Australian Passports Act 2005 and section 8 of the Australian Passports (Application Fees) Act 2005 gives the Minister for Foreign Affairs the authority to make determinations regarding travel document fees.
The Determination is a legislative instrument for the purposes of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.
Consultation took place with the Department of Treasury.
