Australian Passports Amendment Determination 2006 (No.1)
EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
The Determination inserts a new fee schedule (Schedule 4) into the Australian Passports Determination 2005. The new fees take effect on 1 July, 2006.
In May 2006, the Federal Government announced that travel document fees from 1 July would be subject to a 9 per cent increase to offset the approved measure: Strengthening Consular and Overseas Crisis Response Capabilities.
Travel document fees are also subject to an annual movement in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Section 57 of the Australian Passports Act 2005 gives the Minister for Foreign Affairs the authority to make determinations regarding travel document fees.
The Determination is a legislative instrument for the purposes of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.
