EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
- Authority for making the instrument:
The Maritime College Act 1978 section 24 authorises AMC Council to make Statutes not inconsistent with the Act. A Statute may provide for empowering any authority (including the Council) or officer of the College to make rules, not inconsistent with the Act or the Statute, for carrying out or giving effect to the Statute.
Australian Maritime College Statute No. 6 - Courses and Awards Statute - authorises AMC Council to make rules relating to courses and awards.
2. Purpose and operation of the instrument:
The Rules specify the role of Course Committees in administering each Course and formulating conditions for admission, assessment and progression of students. This document repeals the Courses and Awards Rules made on 17 March 2000 and makes the following rules, taking into account changes in AMC structure, Academic Board and Teaching and Learning Policies.

None.
4. Consultation process:
Academic staff, key administrative staff and members of the student body were consulted during the drafting of the revised Rules. They were considered by Academic Board, and duly approved by AMC Council.
