It is notified for general information that the Governor-General has made the following Determination regarding the Australian Corrections Medal.

 

AUSTRALIAN CORRECTIONS MEDAL

DETERMINATION

I, SIR PETER COSGROVE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, having received the approval of Her Majesty The Queen to the design of the Australian Corrections Medal, and acting in pursuance of regulations 5 and 6 of the Regulations governing the Award of the Australian Corrections Medal hereby determine as follows:

Medal Design

 

  1. The Australian Corrections Medal is made of nickel silver and is a circular shape 38 millimetres in diameter and 3.5 millimetres in width. The Medal is surmounted by a nickel silver suspender bar of fixed configuration, with the raised and polished word 'CORRECTIONS' centred on the obverse. The obverse of the Medal features the Federation Star bearing the scales of justice. The seven points of the star represent each of the six states and the territories of the Commonwealth of Australia. The plates on the  scales are hung from three strings representing the three pillars of correctional practice -

detention, supervision and rehabilitation. The elements are encircled by a laurel of Australian wattle. The reverse features a laurel of Australian wattle surrounding space to engrave the name of the recipient.

 

The background of the reverse of the Medal is a frosted finish. The circular portion of the Medal obverse and reverse has a raised and polished rim.

 

 

Miniature

2.      The miniature of the Australian Corrections Medal is a half-size replica of the Medal, suspended from a miniature ribbon 16 millimetres wide.

 

Ribbon

3.      The Australian Corrections Medal is suspended by a ribbon 32 millimetres wide and features a centre band of royal blue 10 millimetres wide which are flanked by bands of white 2 millimetres wide and mustard green 9 millimetres wide.

 

Ribbon Bar

4.      The ribbon bar of the Australian Corrections Medal consists of a strip of full-size ribbon, 32 millimetres wide and 10 millimetres high, with no emblem.

 

Lapel Badge

5.      The lapel badge of the Australian Corrections Medal is a replica of the Medal 10 millimetres in diameter.

 

Wearing

6.      The Australian Corrections Medal is worn on the left breast on all occasions when full-size orders, decorations and medals are worn. The miniature medal is worn on all occasions when miniatures of orders, decorations and medals are worn. The ribbon bar may be worn at any time when service dress is worn. The lapel badge may be worn at any time with civilian dress.

 

Order of Wear

7.      The Australian Corrections Medal is worn in accordance with the Order of Wearing Australian Honours and Awards as approved by the Sovereign and is placed immediately after the Emergency Services Medal.
