A person seeking to pursue an academic program for an associate degree must apply for enrolment according to the arrangement specified for that program (Rule 5(1)). Enrolment in a program is permitted if it aligns with the arrangement (Rule 6(1)). A student enrolled under this rule is considered to have commenced the program on the date they began their studies (Rule 6(2)). The program comprises a sequence of undergraduate courses, the value of which is determined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) (Rule 7(1)). Students may complete some or all of their courses at another institution approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) (Rule 8(1)). Unless otherwise determined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), a program must be completed within two years from the start date (Rule 9(1)). The arrangement may specify terms for approving a period of program leave of absence (Rule 9(2)). The academic performance of a student is assessed in accordance with the arrangement (Rule 10(1)). Examinations must be conducted in line with the arrangement or as approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) (Rule 11(1)). The classification of a student's performance is also determined according to the arrangement (Rule 12(1)). If the relevant Dean decides that a student should be granted an associate degree, they may award it (Rule 13(1)). Reviews of decisions made by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) or a Dean under these Rules must follow the arrangement (Rule 14(1)). Any amendments to these Rules do not apply to students who have already completed work towards an associate degree unless the student elects for the amendment to apply and it is approved under the arrangement for the program, or the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) otherwise determines (Rule 15(1)). Breach of these Rules could result in consequences such as the withholding of awards if obligations to the University are not met, as per Rule 17 of the Discipline Rules. While the Rules themselves do not specify maximum penalties for breaches, the University may impose sanctions under its broader disciplinary framework. These could include disciplinary action, suspension, or expulsion, depending on the severity of the breach.
