appeals RULE 2017
EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
1. Authority for making the instrument: Appeals Statute 2014, section 3.
2. Purpose and operation of the instrument: The Rule defines reviewable decisions and establish criteria and procedures for the hearing of applications for a review of a reviewable decision.
3. Documents incorporated in the instrument by reference: None.
4. Consultation process: The Rule was made by the Vice-Chancellor following a Review which arose, at least partly, following concerns expressed by some staff about the processes and outcomes of past appeals decisions involving students of the University. For the purposes of the preparation of the Report from the Review, the following officers of the University were interviewed: (then) A/g Registrar, Student Administration; Dean of Students; Deputy General Counsel; Director - Human Resources; and, various staff of CBE. Drafting instructions for the new Rule was prepared by the General Counsel and it was drafted in consultation with Division of Student Administration and Division of Student Life.
