Amdt 1


Rudder Pulley Bracket Assembly 9/99

 

Applicability: All Model CA-25 aircraft.

 

Requirement: 1. Remove rudder pulley bracket assembly part number 25-52480 in accordance with the Winjeel Aircraft Maintenance Manual.

 

2.    Chemically strip all surface coating from the bracket assembly and carry out a visual inspection at medium magnification (x10 - x20), looking for small cracking at the grain boundaries and for stress corrosion cracking.

 

3.    Brackets that exhibit no visual evidence of intergranular corrosion or stress corrosion cracking are to be inspected using a fluorescent dye penetrant method, to ensure the absence of discontinuities.

 

4.    Restore the surface finish to serviceable bracket assemblies.

 

5.    Install a serviceable rudder pulley bracket assembly and carry out a rigging check of the rudder control system, in accordance with the Winjeel Aircraft Maintenance Manual.

 

Note 1: RAAF Special Technical Instruction WINJEEL 111 refers.

 

Note 2: Inspections performed in accordance with AD/CA-25/1 satisfy the requirements of this Directive.

 

Compliance: Prior to 30 April 1994.

 

This Amendment becomes effective on 9 September 1999.

 

Background:  A cracked rudder bracket assembly was found on an Air Force aircraft. Reports have also been received of cracks being found on civil Winjeel aircraft, in areas that could not be inspected with the bracket installed.
