Fatigue Critical Components - Retirement Lives 2/89
Applicability: All models.
Requirement: All components listed in the Airworthiness Limitations, Chapter 4 of the Piper Aerostar Maintenance Manual dated 31 January 1980 incorporating Interim Revision 860920 dated 20 September 1986, shall be retired from service at or before the times quoted therein, with the following exceptions and additions:
- For models 601P, 602P, 700P aircraft:
Retire cockpit windshield from service on or prior to achieving 3300 pressurized flight cycles component time in service.
Retire cabin windows from service on or prior to achieving 6600 pressurized flight cycles component time in service.
2. For models 600, 601, 601P, 602P with Machen-modified Lycoming IO-540 or TIO-540 series engines, retire Hartzell HC-C4YR-2/FC6660 (B, K) or HC-C4YR- 2L/FJC6660 (B, K) propeller blades from service at or before 10500 hours component time in service. (Hartzell SL61M refers).
Note: Associated propeller hub parts are not affected.
Compliance: Forthwith.
Background: The original issue of this Directive established propeller blade life limits for Machen installations. It also incorporated the component retirement requirements of AD/TSA- 600/3.
Amendment 1 expands the applicability of exception (1) to apply window life limits to all of the pressurised Aerostar models.
