AD/TBM 700/15

Amdt 1

Starter Generator 5/96 DM

Applicability: This Directive is applicable to TBM 700 airplanes serial numbers 1 to 109 inclusive.

Requirement: 1. Visually inspect the Auxilec starter generator mounting adapter in accordance with Socata TBM 700 Alert Service Bulletin SB 70-071-24 dated November 1995.

2.    Either replace the Auxilec starter generator mounting adapter in accordance with Socata TBM 700 Alert Service Bulletin SB 70-071-24 dated November 1995 or replace the Auxilec starter generator mounting adapter and the attachment clamp in accordance with Socata TBM 700 Service Bulletin SB 70-072-24 dated January 1996. (Action in accordance SB 70-072-24 is terminating action for the Requirement 1 repetitive inspections.)

3.    Replace the Auxilec starter generator mounting adapter and the attachment clamp in accordance with Socata TBM 700 Service Bulletin SB 70-072-24 dated January 1996. (Action in accordance SB 70-072-24 is terminating action for the Requirement 1 repetitive inspections.)

Note: DGAC AD 95-242(B)R1 dated 28 February 1996.

Compliance: For Requirement 1 - If not previously accomplished in accordance with the original issue of this Directive, then before further flight and thereafter at intervals not exceeding 25 hours time in service.

For Requirement 2 - Before further flight, if cracks are found during the Requirement 1 inspection.

For Requirement 3 - If not previously accomplished in accordance with Requirement 2, then within 100 hours time in service after 20 March 1996 or prior to 30 April 1996, whichever occurs earlier.

This amendment is effective from 20 March 1996.

Background:  Socata has advised that the Auxilec starter generator mounting adapters may crack, especially following a heavy landing. Actions required by this Directive are designed in the first instance to increase the likelihood of early detection of cracked adapters and to provide a more efficient method of mounting the starter generator. This amendment is issued to increase the serial number range of aircraft affected and to provide a terminating action for the repetitive inspections.
