Fairchild (Swearingen) SA226 and SA227 Series Aeroplanes

 

AD/SWSA226/70 Horizontal Stabiliser - Aft Spar Attach Fitting 5/95

Applicability: Models SA226-T, SA226-T(B), SA226-AT and SA226-TC listed in Fairchild Service Bulletin 226-55-010, Revised December 13 1991.

 

Models SA227-TT, SA227-AT, SA227-AC and SA227-BC listed in Fairchild Service Bulletin 227-55-006, Revised January 20 1993.

 

Requirement: 1. Modify the horizontal stabiliser aft spar attach fitting installation and the horizontal stabiliser upper and lower skins in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions section of Fairchild Service Bulletin (SB) 226-55-010, Revised December 13 1991 or Fairchild SB 227-55-006, Revised January 20 1993, as applicable.

 

2. Visually inspect the radius area of the rib splice strap for cracks in accordance with Figure 2 of Fairchild SB 226-55-010, Revised December 13 1991 or Figure 3 of Fairchild SB 227-55-006, Revised January 20 1993, as applicable.

 

Note: FAA AD 93-15-01 refers.

 

Compliance: 1. Modify in accordance with Requirement 1 before 10000 hours time in service or within 1000 hours time in service after 27 April 1995, whichever occurs later.

 

2. Initially inspect in accordance with Requirement 2 before 10000 hours time in service or within 1000 hours time in service after 27 April 1995, whichever occurs later. Re-inspect at intervals not to exceed 5000 hours time in service.

 

Background: Cracks have been reported in rib splice straps. The modification will improve stabiliser aft spar attach fitting durability.
