SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
SAAB SF340 Series Aeroplanes
AD/SF340/83 Replacement of Hydraulic Hoses 3/2002
Applicability: All SAAB 340A model aeroplanes S/No’s 004 to 159 and 340B model aeroplanes S/No’s 160 to 459.
Requirement: Carry out actions described in SAAB Aircraft AB Mandatory Service Bulletin (SB) SAAB 340-29-022 dated 14 December 2001.
Note: Swedish AD 1-170 refers.
Compliance: 1. For aeroplanes with hoses which have accumulated 12,000 flight cycles or more, to be carried out within 5000 flight cycles, but not later than 2 years from the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive.
2. For aeroplanes with hoses which have accumulated less than 12,000 flight cycles, to be carried out at 12,000 flight cycles or within 2 years from the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive, whichever occurs later.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 21 March 2002.
Background: A large number of hose failures have occurred, caused by high pressure and bending cycles, resulting in loss of normal landing gear extension/retraction, flap settings and nose wheel steering. This Directive requires that a number of hydraulic hoses be replaced followed by a reduced life limit on replacement hoses. These life limits will be incorporated in Section F - Systems Life Limited Parts of the SAAB 340 Maintenance Review Board (MRB) report.
