SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

 


AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE


For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

 

SAAB SF340 Series Aeroplanes

 

AD/SF340/80 Repainted Aircraft 7/2001

 

Applicability: Model SF340A, serial numbers 004 through 159.

 

Model 340B, serial numbers 160 through 459.

 

Requirement: Inspect repainted aircraft for removed protective coating (anodising and primer) and pitting corrosion in accordance with Saab Aircraft AB Service Bulletin 340-51-020 original issue, or Service Bulletin 340-51-020 Revision 1.

 

Note: LFV AD 1-161 R2 refers.

 

Compliance: Within 2,000 flight hours or 12 months after 12 July 2001, whichever occurs first.

 

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 12 July 2001.

 

Background:  During paint removal prior to repainting, the basic corrosion protection anodising and primer may have been removed by sanding down to bare metal on aluminium skin panels. The Structural Repair Manual prohibits sanding to bare metal.
