AD/SEATS/3 Sicma Passenger Seats 8/88

Applicability: All multiple passenger seats manufactured by Sicma Aero Seats.

Requirement: 1. Inspect the seat belt attachment shackles to determine whether any are of the 'U' type with straight sides. These are used to attach two seat belt halves.

2. If a 'U' shackle is used, either permanently modify the shackle so that the seat belt fittings cannot become attached onto the straight section of the shackle or replace the attachment with a different design which prevents such an occurrence.

Compliance: Prior to 30 November 1988.

Background: A seat belt fitting sliding along the straight section of the 'U' shackle can, under load, have the keeper bent in such a way that the seat belt half is no longer positively attached to the seat.
