AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive AD/SD3-60/62 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: All SD3-60 series aeroplanes.

 

Requirement: 1. Modify the central warning panel (CWP) in accordance with Bombardier Aerospace Shorts Brothers PLC Service Bulletin (SB) SD360-31-06 Revision 1 dated 29 October 2002.

2. Ensure the relevant Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) amendment is embodied as follows:

Background: Short Brothers PLC has advised that a number of in flight engine shut downs, whilst flying in icing conditions, have been reported where failure to deploy the engine intake anti- icing vanes (inertial separators) has been cited as a contributory factor.

The original issue of this Directive introduced a modification to the CWP, which provided a new annunciator light to alert the pilot that the intake anti- icing vanes have not been deployed, when other anti- icing systems have been selected. The Directive also ensured that the relevant AFM ‘P’ amendment is embodied.

 

This Amendment introduces a revised SB which corrects wiring anomalies contained in the original SB and requires reworking of installations completed in accordance with the original SB.

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 5 September 2002.
