Amdt 1
Applicability: All models.
Tail Rotor Control Rod - Rod Ends 9/94 DM
Requirement: Action in accordance with Sikorsky ASB 76-65-45 Revision A.
Compliance: Unless already accomplished, at the next scheduled inspection of the tail rotor control rods, or at the next 150 hour inspection after 13 July 1994, whichever occurs first.
The effective date of the initial issue of this Directive was 25 May 1994.
Work in addition to the initial issue is not required if the rod ends were removed from the barrels and any corroded rod ends were replaced during compliance with that issue.
Background: Cracking in the exposed threaded end of the control rods, rod ends may be occurring. Failure of a control rod end may result in loss of tail rotor control. Amendment 1 is the result of pitting corrosion found in an Australian aircraft, and of a Revision to the initial issue of the ASB.
