SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Rotax Piston Engines
AD/ROTAX/12 Oil System Venting 1/2003
Applicability: Rotax 912 A/F/S series and Rotax 914 F series engines.
Requirement: 1. Carry out the instructions as detailed in paragraphs 3.1.1 through 3.1.4 of Rotax Service Bulletin (SB) 912-036R1 or Rotax SB 914-022R1, whichever is applicable.
2. Carry out the instructions as detailed in paragraphs 3.1.5 through 3.1.7 of Rotax Service Bulletin (SB) 912-036R1 or Rotax SB 914-022R1, whichever is applicable.
3. Carry out engine test run as detailed in paragraph 3.2 of Rotax Service Bulletin (SB) 912-036R1 or Rotax SB 914-022R1, whichever is applicable.
Note: Austrian AD 113 R1 refers.
Compliance: 1. For engines addressed in paragraph 1.5) a) of the applicable SB - unless previously accomplished, prior to further flight.
2. a. For engines addressed in paragraph 1.5) b) of the applicable SB - unless previously accomplished, for engines with up to 50 hours flight time, within 5 flight hours from the effective date of this Directive.
b. For engines exceeding 50- flight hours operation no action is required.
3. Following completion of requirement 1 or 2, prior to further flight.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 23 January 2003.
Background: Incorrect venting of the lubrication system can lead to damage to the valve train with subsequent engine failure.
