Wing Attachment Hardware 1/97
Applicability: Avions Pierre Robin model R2160, all serial numbers, with less than 3400 hours time in service.
Requirement: 1. Inspect for the presence of six wing attachment bolts per wing, and check the torque of all bolts - 50Nm torque.
2. Restrict flight to +3.8g and -1.52g with spinning prohibited, and install a temporary placard to this effect over the currently installed limitations placard.
Note: The installation and removal of the temporary placard may require an amendment to the aircraft flight manual, which may be arranged through a district office of the Authority.
3. Replace the wing attachment hardware in accordance with sections 2 and 3 of Avions Pierre Robin NOTE NAV 96-3, dated 2 May 1996.
4. Check the torque of the front and rear wing attachment bolts is in accordance with section 3.3 of Avions Pierre Robin NOTE NAV 96-3, dated 2 May 1996. If the torque of the nut is incorrect, inspect in accordance with requirement 5.
5. Inspect the wing attachment hardware in accordance with section 2 and 3 of Avions Pierre Robin NOTE NAV 96-3, dated 2 May 1996.
Note: DGAC AD T-96-051(A)R1 refers.
Compliance: 1. For requirement 1, prior to further flight after 13 March 1996.
2. For requirement 2, prior to further flight after 13 March 1996 until compliance with requirement 3.
3. For requirement 3, before 100 hours time in service after 2 January 1997.
4. For requirement 4, check before 100 hours time in service after compliance with Requirement 3. Thereafter check at intervals not to exceed 100 hours.
5. For requirement 5, inspect before 1000 hours time in service after compliance with Requirement 3. Thereafter inspect at intervals not to exceed 1000 hours.
This amendment becomes effective on 2 January 1997.
Background: The initial issue of this directive followed a report by the French airworthiness authority, the DGAC, of the in-flight failure of the wing attachments of a Robin R2160 aircraft. The flight restrictions of Requirement 2 were imposed while the DGAC investigated the incident.

This amendment provides for removal of the flight restriction once the wing attachment hardware is replaced. The torque check and inspection requirements subsequent to replacement are to ensure the continuing airworthiness of the wing attachment hardware. These inspections are continued in AD/ROBIN/8 Amdt 2 for aircraft with 3400 hours time in service or greater.
The initial issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 13 March 1996.
