AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/RB211/22 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Spray Nozzle Fuel Supply Tube - Inspection 12/2003
Applicability: RB211-535 series engines incorporating Phase 5 Combustor (Rolls Royce Service Bulletin (SB) RB.211-72-C230) but NOT incorporating Rolls Royce SB RB.211-78- D518.
Requirement: Inspect for evidence of fretting between the No.14 fuel spray nozzle fuel supply tube and the L/H C-duct forward hold open rod in accordance with Rolls Royce SB RB.211-78-D011, Revision 2.
Terminating Action
Incorporation of Rolls Royce SB RB.211-78-D518 constitutes compliance with the requirements of this Directive.

Compliance: Hold Open Rod:
Within 25 hours time-in-service (TIS) from the effective date of the original issue of this Directive. Thereafter, at anytime the L/H C-duct is opened.
No. 14 Fuel Spray Nozzle Supply Tube:
Between 250 and 300 hours TIS since installation. If in excess of 300 hours TIS, within 25 hours TIS from the effective date of the original issue of this Directive. Thereafter, re-inspect at intervals not exceeding 600 hours TIS.
This Amendment becomes effective on 27 November 2003.
Background: Reports have been received of contact between the No.14 fuel spray nozzle fuel supply tube and the L/H C-duct forward hold open rod. This Directive has been raised to mandate inspection of the fuel manifold to No.14 fuel spray nozzle fuel supply tube for signs of fretting between the tube and/ or the hexagonal section of the forward hold open rod. This amendment, although having no affect on the requirement of the original issue of this Directive, introduces terminating action of the initial and repetitive inspection requirements of this Directive.
