For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworth iness Directive (AD) AD/R22/24 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

AD/R22/24

Amdt 1

Lower Actuator Bearing Mounting Brackets 6/2003

Applicability: All R22 series helicopters.

Requirement: Action in accordance with the R22 Maintenance Manual, Rev 21, June 2000, Page 2.24, Section 2.410, Item # 8.

Note: This requirement was formerly contained in SB-44, which has now been cancelled.

Compliance: As specified in the R22 Maintenance Manual.

This Amendment becomes effective on 12 June 2003.

Background: This AD was raised to mandate the incorporation of SB-44 after loose rivets were found in an R22 helicopter, allowing the A181 bearing to misalign. This eventually led to vee belt drive failure.

This amendment changes the requirement section to refer to the Maintenance Manual instead of SB-44 (R22 model only), because SB-44 has been cancelled. There is no change to the compliance time.

The original issue of the AD became effective on the 31 May 1985.

Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 22 April 2003

The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 21 May 2003.
