AD/R22/20 Push Pull Tubes and Guides - Inspection

and Modification

Applicability: All R22 models with serial numbers 0002 through 0369.

2/84

Requirement: Part 1 With the aid of a small mirror and high intensity light, visually and carefully inspect the A121-7 vertical push pull tubes for wear in the area of the blue guide bushings. Also check for evidence of movement of the blue bushings in their mount causing fretting and deterioration of guides. Push pull tube wear between .005 and

.015 inch per side is acceptable.

If a tube is worn over .015 inch per side or the blue bushing is wearing through housing, replace tube, guide and bushings as applicable before further flight.

Part 2 Install protective sleeve and guides as per RHC SB No. 36.

Compliance: Part 1 Within 25 hours time in service after 28 December 1983.

Part 2 Within 100 hours time in service after 31 January 1984.

Background: The manufacturer advises that excessive wear of the vertical push pull tubes forward of the main rotor gearbox has been reported, consequently a protective sleeve and adjustable guide have been developed to nullify this problem.
