Applicability: PW118A, PW123, PW123AF, PW123B, PW124B, PW125B, PW126, PW126A

engines.

 

Requirement: Action in accordance with the technical requirements of Transport Canada Airworthiness Directive CF-92-03R2.

 

Note: FAA AD 94-11-11 also refers.

 

Compliance: Unless previously accomplished, as detailed in the requirement document.

 

This amendment becomes effective on 11 September 1997.

 

Background: This AD arises from reports of internal oil fires in the intercompressor case (ICC) which can result in aircraft damage and in-flight shutdown.

 

ICC fires can occur as a result of spontaneous ignition of:

 

(a)     engine oil that has accumulated in the ICC cavity, or

 

(b)     air/oil mist that can reverse flow into the ICC following a No 5 bearing failure. The modifications mandated by this AD will prevent ICC fires.

Amendment 1 revised the Directive to reflect the technical requirements of Transport Canada AD CF-92-03 R2 and to expand the "Background" information.

 

This amendment corrects the reference to FAA AD 94-11-11.
