Amdt 1

Upper Wing Front Spar to Cabane Fitting - Inspection

5/95

Applicability: All model S-1S and S-2A aircraft.

Requirement: Remove all paint and fabric on the fittings below the wing lower surface contour (removal of the AN5 bolt is not necessary). Inspect, using either a 10X hand lens or dye penetrant method per CAO 108.10, the front and rear faces of the upper wing front spar to cabane fitting, especially in the area immediately above the AN5 bolt at the lower end of the fitting. Re-finish bare metal surfaces exposed for the inspection.

Note: Pitts Service Letters 2 and 3 refer.

Compliance: Initially inspect:

(i)       S-1S models before 25 hours time in service after 27 April 1995 or before 20 July 1995, whichever occurs first;

(ii)     The original Compliance for the S-2A model remains unchanged; Before 25 hours time in service after 14 January 1974.

Re-inspect at intervals not to exceed 200 hours time in service or 1 year, whichever occurs first.

Background: The original issue of this AD applied only to the model S-2A, without the calendar year limitation on repeat inspections. This amendment extends applicability to the S- 1S model and includes a calendar year interval for repeat inspections. Acceptable inspection methods are also specified.
