Rudder Control Horn Attachment Bolts - Inspection and Modification

Applicability: All models PA-36-285/300 with S/Nos. 36-7360001 to 36-8160001, 36-8160003 and 36-8160009 to 36-8160019; All models PA-36-375 with S/Nos. 36-7802001 to

36-8102004

 

Requirement: 1. Visually inspect the Rudder Control Horn Attachment Bolt to ensure tightness.

 

2. Inspect the Rudder Control Horn Attachment Bolts in accordance with Piper SB No. 495B and modify as necessary.

 

Note: For aircraft maintained in accordance with ANO 100.5.1 this Directive shall be entered on the maintenance release as maintenance required. The inspection may be performed by the pilot in command, in which case certification is not required. In all other cases certification may be made on the maintenance release. This inspection may also be performed and certified by any Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.

 

Compliance: Para. 1 - At each daily or overnight inspection after 10 August 1981 until para. 2 accomplished. (Aeroplanes inspected in accordance with original issue of this Directive are deemed to comply with this issue of the Directive).

 

Para. 2 - Within 100 hours time in service after 10 August 1981 unless previously inspected and if necessary, modified in accordance with original issue of this Directive.

 

Background: The manufacturer has received a report of rudder horn separation in the field. This issue of the Directive extends effectivity of requirement to later S/N aeroplanes and to the model PA-36-375.
