Amdt 2
Main Wing Spar Attaching Nuts 11/89
Applicability: All models PA-34, all serial numbers.
Requirement: Carry out detailed visual inspection, of nuts fitted to wing spar attaching bolts. Inspect nuts for cracks or splits. Defective nuts are to be replaced before further flight.
Note: Piper SB No. 602 refers.
Compliance: Unless accomplished in the 75 hours time in service prior to 9 August 1989 - within 25 hours time in service after 9 August 1989 and thereafter at each scheduled inspection for issue of Maintenance Release.
Background: Amendment 1 was prepared following a report that six split nuts were found on an Australian aircraft with serial number outside the affected range in Piper SB No. 602. Amendment 1 required repetitive inspections on all models. Models PA-34-200 and PA- 34-220T aircraft have a similar spar attachment and have the same part number nuts. Amendment 2 deletes 10X glass requirement due to problems of access.
Nevertheless the use of a sight aid where possible is strongly recommended.
