Piper PA-32 (Cherokee Six) Series Aeroplanes

 

AD/PA-32/63 Turbocharger Exhaust System - Inspection 7/79

Applicability: Model PA-32RT-300T with S/Nos. 32R-7887001 to 32R-7987126. Requirement:               1. Remove turbocharger exhaust coupling P/N 556108 and tailpipe P/N 98705-2.

2.    Using either a dye penetrant method or a 10X lens, inspect coupling, coupling bolt, tailpipe and tailpipe flange for cracks, deformation and damage.

 

3.    Measure width across inside opening of coupling retainer segments. Maximum allowable dimension is 0.350 inches (See Figure 1.).

 

4.    Measure thickness of tailpipe flange at apex. Dimension required is 0.096 inches plus or minus 0.005 inches (See Figure 1.).

 

5.    If flange dimension is under the tolerance shown in (4) above, replace tailpipe. If over tolerance, rework the flange mating surface to dimensions in (4) above, provided 0.005 inches flatness is maintained, or replace with serviceable part.

 

6.    Replace any exhaust system part found cracked, deformed or damaged.

 

Note: During installation of serviceable parts ensure turbocharger and tailpipe flanges are properly aligned. Tap coupling gently to distribute band tension while tightening coupling nut. Torque coupling nut to 40-50 inch pounds and lockwire.

 

Compliance: Within 10 hours time in service after 2 July 1979.
