COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY
SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Piper PA-31 Series Aeroplanes
AD/PA-31/116 Main Landing Gear Downlock Cable 7/87
Applicability: Models and serial numbers as listed in Piper Service Bulletin No 860, and having cable-type downlock actuators fitted.
Requirement: Replace the existing anti-rotation stop with a stop of improved design as per Piper Service Bulletin No 860.
Note: A stop may not have been previously fitted, but is required to be fitted.
Compliance: Unless already accomplished, within 100 hours time in service after 30 June 1987.
Background: The manufacturer has determined that the anti-rotation stop used in conjunction with the M.L.G. downlock cable can allow the cable attach clevis bolt to rotate. Downlock cable length is thus shortened, preventing full engagement of the downlock hook assembly. Aircraft delivered with cable type downlock actuators may or may not have been fitted with anti-rotation stops.
