SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

Piper PA-25 (Pawnee) Series Aeroplanes

AD/PA-25/39

Amdt 1

Fuel Tank 9/89

Applicability: Models PA-25-150, PA-25-235 and PA-25-260 equipped with Piper fuselage fibreglass fuel tank and certified in the Agricultural category.

Requirement: Unless currently installed, install a rubber fuel cell liner in the fibreglass fuel tank in accordance with Piper Service Bulletin No. 878, or other equivalent modification document.

Note: Ansett General Aviation modification No. 01A514 or Piper Service Spares Letter No. SP-236A are considered to be equivalent and aircraft currently in accord with these documents require no further action.

Aircraft modified to install Gippsland Aeronautics fuel tank P/N GA0189-1, manufactured in accordance with drawing GA0189, are also acceptable without further action.

Compliance: Prior to 31 October 1988.

Background:  Local accident statistics of post impact fires involving PA-25 agricultural aircraft and field accident statistics from the manufacturer, have established that the standard fibreglass fuel tank without a rubber fuel cell liner installed, is more susceptible to post impact fire in the event of an accident. This Amendment approves installation of the fibreglass tank manufactured by Gippsland Aeronautics as an alternative acceptable configuration to the Piper fuel cell.
