COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA (Civil Aviation Regulations 1998), PART 39 - 105 CIVIL AVIATION SAFETY AUTHORITY
SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Piper PA-22 (Tri-Pacer and Colt) Series Aeroplanes
AD/PA-22/9
Amdt 5
Wing Lift Strut Forks 5/95
Applicability: All Piper PA-22 models.
Requirement: 1. Install “No Step” Decal on starboard lift strut.
2. Retire lift strut forks from service.
Installation of sealed lift struts in accordance with Piper mandatory Service Bulletin 528D cancels the retirement Requirement of this Directive (AD/PA-22/33 refers).
For those models which have a fairing over the front and rear strut lower ends, a single placard on the starboard fairing will suffice.
Note: FAA AD 93-10-06 and Piper Service Bulletin 157D refer.
Compliance: 1. Install placard before 50 hours time in service after 30 September 1986.
2. Retire lift strut forks before the accumulation of 1000 hours time in service. This amendment is effective from 27 April 1995.
Background: This Amendment specifies the individual actions to be taken and provides for a terminating modification. The continuing airworthiness of these components is managed on a retirement life basis. It is no longer required to perform a magnetic particle inspection at the half life (500 hours).
