Fuselage Door Frame Tube Corrosion 1/94
Applicability: Model PA-22 aircraft with serial numbers 22-01 through 22-9848 Requirement: 1. Action in accordance with Piper Service Bulletin 819; or
2. Carry out a radiographic inspection of the areas stipulated in Piper Service Bulletin 819 to a scheme approved by the Authority.
Note: Radiographic technique No ANTDS.86.4 by Gippsland Aeronautics, is a scheme acceptable for compliance with this Directive.
Compliance: 1. Unless already accomplished, prior to 30 November 1986.
2. Unless already accomplished, prior to 30 November 1986, and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 5 years.
The compliance of this Directive is unchanged except for the repetitive inspection interval, which has been extended.
This Amendment is effective from 6 January 1994.
Background: The manufacturer reported instances of excessive corrosion between the steel tubing and preformed steel sections which form the structure of the door frames, windshield, and baggage areas of the fuselage. Amendment 1 of this Directive gave the option of a repetitive radiographic inspection.
