Lycoming Piston Engines

 

AD/LYC/95 Turbocharger Density Controller Adjustment 2/95

Applicability: TIO-540-A1A, A1B, A2A, A2B, A2C, C1A, F2BD, J2B, J2BD, N2BD, AA1AD, AB1AD, AF1A; LTIO-540-F2BD, J2B, J2BD, N2BD engines.

 

Requirement: Action in accordance with the requirements of Textron Lycoming Service Instruction Number 1187G.

 

Compliance: Effective 2 February 1995:

 

Installed engines: Unless accomplished within 125 hours time in service prior to 2 February 1995; within 10 hours time in service and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 125 hours time in service.

 

Uninstalled engines: Prior to flight following installation of an engine.

 

Background:  This Directive requires the turbocharger density controller to be adjusted following installation of an engine in an aircraft and that adjustment to be checked regularly. The requirement is to ensure the engine is capable of developing full throttle take-off power as detailed in the approved Airplane Flight Manual (AFM). The necessity to mandate a manufacturer's published maintenance procedure reflects an awareness of certain operators failing to appreciate the importance of carrying out such a procedure.
