AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability: Rockwell Collins AFD-3010 adaptive flight display units, part numbers 822-1084- 012/-108/-202/-206/-302/-304/-402/-404/-406 with serial numbers specified in Rockwell Collins Service Bulletin (SB) 12, Revision 2, (AFD-3010- 31-12), dated 30
August 2002.
Note 1: AFD-3010 adaptive flight display units are known to be installed in, but not limited to, the following aircraft:
Bombardier Model CL-600-2A12 (CL-601), Cessna Model 525 and 525A,
Dassault Model Mystère-Falcon 20-F5 and Mystère-Falcon 50, and Raytheon Model 390 and Hawker 800XP.
Requirement: 1. Inspect the AFD-3010 adaptive flight display unit to determine the serial number.
2. If, as a result of the Requirement 1 inspection, the serial number is found to be one of those listed in SB12, Rev 2 (AFD-3010-31-12), then inspect the MFP386 Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) device in accordance with the SB to determine the date code.
- If the date code on the MFP386 ASIC device is 0128, return the AFD-3010 unit to the manufacturer for modification and install a modified ADF-3010 unit.
b. If the date code on the MFP386 ASIC is other than 0128, no manufacturer modification is necessary.
3. ADF- 3010 adaptive flight display units that contain a MFP386 ASIC device with a date code of 0128 may not be installed on any aircraft as a replacement part or new installation.

Background: This Directive requires the inspection of AFD-3010 units to determine if they contain an MFP386 ASIC device with a date code of 0128. The Directive also requires the return to the manufacturer for modification of any AFD-3010 units with an MFP386 device with a date code of 0128.
These actions are intended to prevent premature failure of the ASIC, which could result in the AFD-3010 unit displaying erroneous primary flight and engine parameter information. Such failure could lead to the pilot using incorrect information when making critical flight safety decisions.
