AD/INST/39 Altimeters Manufactured By CATIC 5/96
Applicability: All Altimeters manufactured by China National Aero Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC).
Note 1: These altimeters generally have no manufacturer identification or markings on the instrument case or the instrument face.
Note 2: These altimeters are known to be installed on but not limited to the Skyfox Aviation (Hedaro) CA21, CA22A, CA22A/25, CA25 and CA25N aircraft series.
Requirement: Calibrate the altimeter in accordance with CAO 108.56.
Major Defect Reports are to be raised on any failed instrument in accordance with CAR 51B.
Compliance: With effect from 25 April 1996:
- Altimeters not installed in aircraft - prior to initial installation and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 12 calendar months after installation.
2. installed in aircraft and not having complied with AD/INST/8 in the previous 12 calendar months - prior to 1 August 1996 and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 12 calendar months.
3. Altimeters installed in aircraft and having complied with AD/INST/8 in the previous 12 calendar months - within 12 months of complying with AD/INST/8 and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 12 calendar months.
Background: Reports have been received of altimeters, with no identifying markings, giving erroneous altitude indications.
