Schweizer (Hughes) 269 Series Helicopters
AD/HU 269/89 Droop Stop Nut 2/88 DM
Applicability: All Model 269 series Helicopters.
Requirement: 1. Carry out a visual inspection of the droop stop nut (P/N 269A1340) for indications of cracking in accordance with Part I of Schweizer Service Information Notice No. N-213.
2. Carry out a dye penetrant inspection of the droop stop nut (P/N 269A1340) for cracking in accordance with Part II of Schweizer SIN No. N-213.
Compliance: a. As detailed in Requirement 1 not later than at each Daily Inspection after 17 December 1987, until Requirement 2 is accomplished.
Note: The visual inspection may be accomplished by the pilot in command, in which case the precise AD reference shall be entered in a certification made on the Maintenance Release coincident with that for the Daily Inspection.
b. As detailed in Requirement 2 within 100 hours time in service after 31 December 1987 or prior to 31 March 1988, whichever occurs first.
c. As detailed in Requirement 2 prior to the installation of droop stop nuts held in spares inventory at 29 September 1987.
Background: Reports received by the manufacturer indicate the possibility of cracking and failure of the droop stop nut. A one-time dye penetrant inspection of the subject nut constitutes terminating action.
