AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/HU 269/26 Amdt 15 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Retirement Life - Critical Components 5/2003
Applicability: All models
Requirement: All components listed in the Schweizer (Hughes) 269 Series Basic Handbook of Maintenance Instructions (HMI) Appendix B, Table B-5, (re- issue dated 20 May 1993 and revised 25 January 2002), shall be retired on or before the times quoted therein.
Note: Operators of aircraft engaged in operations which involve unusual manoeuvres, such as agricultural, or cattle mustering, or operations where consistently more than four rotor full stop flights per hour are achieved, must consult the manufacturer giving full details including previous history of all operations for possible life revision and must advise the Authority accordingly. For the purposes of notification, two flights concluding with rotors turning while on the ground and the engine at idle or greater power setting shall be counted as equivalent to one flight with rotors at full stop.
Compliance: This Amendment becomes effective on 15 May 2003.
Background: This Directive is issued to ensure that life limited components are removed from service at or before the manufacturers specified retirement lives. This Amendment reflects the latest amendment status of the Schweizer (Hughes) 269 HMI, Appendix B, Table B-5.
Amendment 14 of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 30 November 1989 and Amendment 15 effective 17 August 1995, both updated the amendment status of the Hughes 269 HMI, Appendix B, Table B-5.
