Schweizer (Hughes) 269 Series Helicopters

 

AD/HU 269/105 Tailboom Support Struts 9/95

Applicability: All models.

 

Requirement: Chemically remove the paint and sealant from the tapered ends of the tailboom support struts as shown in Figure 1.

 

Inspect the tailboom support struts for cracks using a colour contrast or fluorescent dye penetrant in accordance with CAO 108.10. When inspecting the tailboom support struts pay particular attention to the surface between the bolt holes.

 

If no cracks are detected and nicks, dents and scratches do not exceed the limits specified in the Schweizer HMI, clean the tailboom support struts and repaint.

Compliance: Inspect the tailboom support struts before 200 hours time in service after 17 August 1995.

 

Background: The inspection of the tailboom centre attachment fittings (P/N 269A2324 and -7) has been incorporated in the Schweizer HMI. Cracking of a tailboom support strut has been reported. The crack was not evident until the paint was removed.
